DIY Wheat Tea Lights

DIY Wheat Tea Lights

A lot of our customers order our dried flowers for the purpose of weddings. Whether their own wedding or for a friend or family member, wedding flowers can be an expensive portion of the budget. So it’s no wonder that many people now are turning to making their own bouquets, boutonnieres, and reception decor. Make your own wedding decor and save that extra money for the honeymoon!

These DIY wheat tea lights would not only be adorable on the tables at a reception, they could also be used to decorate your Thanksgiving table this Fall or to use as place settings.

This idea originally came from designsponge.com

We love the idea here at Dried Decor, to use something like wheat in a new and unique way, while still being cost effective and simple.

Items that you will need:

  • Battery Operated Tea Lights
  • Twine/Ribbon/Burlap
  • Hot Glue
  • Dried Wheat
  • Small Glass Container

Optional:

  • Fabric dye in color of your choice

We love the look of these tea lights using just the beautiful color of the natural blonde wheat, but you can also use fabric dye to color your wheat to match your color scheme. You could also make yours out of our blackbeard wheat options

Blackbeard What – Natural

Dyed Blackbeard Wheat – Green

Dyed Blackbeard Wheat – Burnt Oak

Cut your wheat down to the size of your choice to fit your glass container. Designsponge.com recommends that you cut your wheat to be about 2 inches taller than where your candle sits.

Using your hot glue, glue your wheat all the way around your container covering as much of the glass as your can. Let dry completely. Finish with your twine/ribbon/raffia about the base of your glass to give it a finishing touch.

If you’re going to dye your wheat. First dye according to the package instructions on your individual dye and dip the wheat it. Allow to dry for at least 24 hours. Then follow the above steps.
